  • Independent Living

The Independent Living course offers you the chance to brush up your skills, work in small groups and gain confidence. The course will also teach you how to manager your money and gain all the skills you need to live independently. Along with a preparation for employment qualification you can choose from ICT, English and Maths at the level that suits you. This course provides you with additional support and confidence building as well as the chance to find out what else we have on offer at Brunel and Gordano Training.


You will receive an Educational Maintenance Allowance of £30.00 per week, and a bonus of £5 each week you have full attendance. You will also receive free travel to and from the centre.


Whilst on the Independent Living course you will work towards and gain a number of qualifications or take part in  activities such as:


  • Literacy, Numeracy and I.C.T.

Depending on your current level, you will be working either one-to-one with a tutor, or in very small groups with other learners who are at the same level. Exams are taken when you are ready, rather than at set times. ICT will begin with “skills for life” at Entry 3 level, then C.L.A.I.T. modules (word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentations, desktop publishing), five of which will result in a Diploma.


  • Vocational Tasters

In areas such as Engineering, Painting and Decorating and Business Admin


  • Work based Qualifications

Qualifications such as First Aid, CSCS, Manual Handling and Health and Safety


  • Employment Skills

Create a CV, covering letters and learn about interview skills and how to improve your chances of gaining employment.


  • Personal and Social Development

Building up confidence and self-esteem is important for young people to progress in life. Personal and Social Development helps you to develop the skills needed to manage in life. This will be covering subjects such as team working, managing relationships, healthy living, managing money and preparation for work.


  • Enrichment Activities

Take part in activities such as mountain biking, potholing, archery and raft building.
